Letter from Pastor Fletcher
Dear Friends of Good News at Noon,
Much excitement surrounds Good News at Noon today after over thirty years of ministry. We are thankful and excited about your interest in supporting and serving with us.
Our ministry was founded in 1987 by Gene Beckstein and his wife Margie after he retired from teaching. “Mr. B,” as he was affectionally called, was born in the projects in New York. At times as a young man he himself was homeless.
He taught in ministry for 37 years. In retirement Mr. B and his wife started serving meals to the homeless and the working men around Melrose Apartments. As many of you know, this work has grown into a homeless shelter, food kitchen, family grocery distributor, clothing distributor, as well as men’s and women’s ministries and a worship center today. The Good News Clinic moved out of our facilities in 2005 and is a separate entity.
Because we do not receive government funds, we are and will always be a Gospel Rescue Mission dependent upon volunteers, private donations, and grants.
Currently about 55 churches and countless individuals help us serve. We serve 85,000 meals a year. We provide lunch every day. We have an evening service at 6:30 p.m. in English, followed by a meal on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Fridays. Wednesday nights the worship service at 7 p.m., the evening meal at 7:30 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays we have a service at 11am followed by lunch at noon. We house 18 men now and need to add beds.
